Wonderful Wine & Culture Experiences in W. Cape

See Cape Town by helicopter & experience local culinary & cultural traditions on this family-friendly Platinum DreamTrip — plus, indulge yourself with wine, chocolate & nougat tastings during a tour of celebrated Cape Winelands estates.

About Your Trip

Venture to the captivating port city of Cape Town to kick off your all-encompassing Platinum DreamTrip with fun for the whole family in South Africa’s Western Cape. Here, you’ll discover tasty delights as you tour one of the country’s premier wine-producing regions, soar in a helicopter over city and coastline, ride a cable car to the top of Table Mountain, learn how to play a djembe drum and so much more. It’s a remarkable blend of cultural activities and scenic sightseeing — be sure to pack your camera so you can capture every moment!

In Cape Town, you’ll see the distinct, colorful Bo-Kaap neighborhood and visit Zeitz MOCAA – Museum of Contemporary Art Africa for a taste of culture. Marvel at spectacular views from above with an exhilarating cable-car ride to the top of Table Mountain and a thrilling helicopter ride along the coastline. For something different, learn how to play a djembe drum during a Cape Malay-inspired dinner outing that includes live percussion, puppetry and dance along with delectable cuisine.

Wine enthusiasts will adore a tour of the Cape Winelands, a countryside boasting majestic mountain ranges, scenic passes, historic wine estates and distinctive Cape Dutch homesteads. Along the way, you’ll stop in Paarl for a visit to Spice Route, an outstanding destination that’s home to restaurants, shops, artisans and handicrafts. There you can use your special passport booklet for samples and tastings at venues including Cape Brewing Company, De Villiers Chocolate, Spice Route Wines, Wilderer Distillery and DV Cafe — from ice cream and confections to gin and ale, there’s something here for every taste. Why not pop into a spice shop while you’re here, or watch glass blowers crafting their beautiful art?

You’ll wrap up your adventure in Stellenbosch, the heart of the winelands, with a stay in a quaint luxurious lodge within an expansive farm and winery estate. It’s the perfect scenic backdrop for a bicycle ride or a nice stroll through the vineyards in your leisure time. From here, you’ll tour 3 local estates and tempt your taste buds with wine, chocolate and nougat — celebrate your good times with even better flavors.

What we love:
• Victoria & Albert Waterfront (commonly called V&A Waterfront) is a must-see oceanside complex boasting everything you’d want all in one place — restaurants, retail outlets, museums, a farmer’s market, an aquarium, and historical landmarks such as the 1882 Clock Tower and SAS Somerset vessel. No wonder this awesome venue entertains more than 20 million visitors a year!
• If you’re a wine lover, a cellar door experience is the way to go. The small and intimate setting gives the staff — and oftentimes the winemakers themselves — a chance to offer visitors their knowledge along with samples of wine.
• Of the 18 official wine routes in South Africa, Route 62, the longest wine route in the world, is the most popular. Known as the Cape Route, it travels 528 miles (850 kilometers), through quaint towns, over rolling hills and past wineries.
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!

This trip will close by February 8.

Destination

Cape Town is one of the most scenic and culturally diverse cities in South Africa. From the plateau crest of Table Mountain — the stirring backdrop to the Cape Town skyline — to the bustling harbor along the Cape Peninsula’s Atlantic seashore, this capital of the Western Cape Province has it all.

The food scene is vibrant and thriving, one that reflects Cape Town’s multicultural make up. Influences range from Dutch, Indian and Cape Malay to Italian, Japanese and Moroccan. The city’s oceanside location is perfect for seafood-inspired cuisine, especially pickled fish, prawns and mussels. The area is also home to world-class wine producers, some with vineyard grapes dating back to the 1600s. Wine routes such as Stellenbosch and Franschhoek offer tourists an easy way to explore the history of the South African Winelands.
